Artist Statement:Our Street School Art students decided to create a whimsical piano design inspired by Alice in Wonderland. With a Cheshire Cat grin across the keys, the piano features soldiers of the Queen of Hearts, the white roses painted red, a glimpse through the keyhole at another world, and lush ivy throughout. The center of the looking glass hints at the hidden surprise beneath this piano’s façade: there are hidden layers of color under the surface painting, that will be revealed as the piano weathers. Inspired by Jimmy Fallon’s Gobstomper shoes, this piano was made to take a beating in the elements, and become more intriguing as its surface painting is worn down by the weather. We hope that this inspires joy, imagination, and creativity in all that pass by, take pictures with it, or sit down to play their favorite tunes!
