Artist Statement: At Broken Arrow High School, we are very proud of our Fine Arts programs and students. We wanted to express our appreciation for the Arts in this design. The use of splatter paint technique combined with the flat fields of color and simplistic paper illustration style imagery are intended to express the combination of free-flowing creativity and dedicated discipline that make the Arts such a special experience. We have included nods to visual art, drama/theater, music, and dance in this piece. The choice to use only primary colors with black and white is intended to bring a child-like feeling to the work, transforming the piano into an adult size model of a child’s toy. Our goal is to remind people that play and creativity are an inherent part of each of us, and taking the time to engage with the whimsical in life brings us joy.
